Welcome to the Reh-Fit Centre

Every day at the Reh-Fit Centre, we see the powerful effect that exercise and a healthy lifestyle can have on people of all ages. From boosting energy and losing weight to eliminating pain and reducing the use of medication, the Reh-Fit offers a new prescription for health that delivers lasting physical, mental, and emotional benefits.

We take a comprehensive approach – offering a wide array of programs and services to assist you in your journey – no matter your ability. You may choose to become a member or participate in hundreds of public fitness, education, culinary, and specialty programs.

The Reh-Fit Centre is more than a fitness centre. We provide an environment to help individuals achieve and maintain health and wellness. We offer individual and group options for exercise, nutrition, and education through a team of certified health and fitness professionals. Expert guidance from professional personnel, innovative health enhancement programs, and the integration of medical, rehabilitative, and fitness services all are delivered in a clean, service-oriented environment.

What Sets Us Apart

The Reh-Fit has been recognized as a Canada’s first certified medical fitness facility by the Medical Fitness Association. The designation assures members and the community at large that the Reh-Fit meets the highest global standards for programs, staff, safety, and community service.

As a certified medical fitness facility, we offer a range of features that distinguish us from our counterparts in the commercial fitness industry:

  • Certified, professional staff are trained to help people learn behaviour modification techniques and support them as they fulfill their commitment to a more active lifestyle.
  • Members are offered an annual health and fitness assessment, the results of which are sent to their family physician so that together we form a collaborative health and fitness team for optimum attention to the health and wellbeing of each member.
  • Our Cardiac Rehabilitation program has been saving and enhancing the lives of those with heart disease for almost 40 years. We also offer a range of chronic disease management and prevention programs to help those with a chronic illness find a new lease on life.
  • The Centre serves as a research setting for staff, medical students, and visiting professionals.
  • We present community health education seminars, and offer community educational events, such as Activity Aging Week, Smart for Your Heart Month, and Exercise Is Medicine Month.
  • We have formed partnerships with more than a dozen local organizations to offer specialized healthy living services we could not otherwise offer as effectively on our own.
  • The Centre’s employs a medical advisor, a doctor who is responsible for making sure that our medical protocols – guidelines for the staff to follow in medical emergencies – are up-to-date.
  • Our Medical Advisory Committee offers advice about gaps in community health and fitness that the Reh-Fit can fill.

Reh-Fit Centre Board of Directors

The Reh-Fit Centre is governed by a Board of Directors. This volunteer group is responsible for the overall direction of the Reh-Fit, advancing the mission of the organization, its fiscal affairs, policies governing the Centre, and representing the Centre to the public.

Scott Bailey, CHAIR

Scott Bailey is a Certified Management Accountant and has a Master of Business Administration degree. Scott has varying board experience, including the past President of the Manitoba Theatre for Young People, the Manitoba Contact Centre Association and is currently active with the St. John Brebeuf Community Church and School. Scott enjoys spending time with this family and supporting their many athletic endeavours by way of coaching, managing, and cheering. Scott has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2010 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2012.

 

David Thompson, PAST CHAIR

David Thompson is a Chartered Accountant, a Certified Management Accountant, and a Certified Management Consultant. He is currently the Director of Finance and Operations with the Manitoba Museum. His business experience over 35 years is extensive. David and his wife Laurie have both been members of the Reh-Fit Centre for a number of years. He is committed to fitness and attends the Centre three to four times each week for regular workouts and participates in various programs. David was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2010.

 

Pat Kloepfer, VICE-CHAIR

Pat earned her Chartered Accountant designation (1988) while working with KPMG, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from the University of Manitoba. She joined Investors Group in 1989 and gained broad management experience through positions in finance, internal audit, operations, facilities, and distribution management. Over her career in financial services, she has developed specialized expertise in regulatory compliance, audit, and internal control.

Pat has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre for six years, and has been a member of the Finance Committee since 2009. Pat’s other previous volunteer community service contributions have included the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Manitoba Lung Association, St. Mary’s Academy, and the Whyte Ridge Soccer Association.

 

Wanda Burns, TREASURER

Wanda Burns is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ experience. She has worked in the entertainment, insurance, telecommunications, manufacturing and distribution sectors and is currently a finance professional with the City of Winnipeg.

Wanda has held executive positions with the Saskatchewan Motion Picture Industry Association, the Montessori School of Regina as well as various school and sports organizations. Wanda is married with two grown children.

Wanda has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2010, is a past member of the Heart Throbs Running Club, and is a currently the Chair of the Finance Committee.

 

John Schubert, SECRETARY

John Schubert is President of McCaine Electric Ltd., a leading Winnipeg-based electrical contractor providing electrical installation, maintenance, and related services to clients in the industrial, institutional, and commercial markets. Contracts have ranged from Ronald McDonald House to the Winnipeg Blue Bomber stadium.

A construction industry veteran, John has over 30 years of experience acting as council for industry-related boards and associations, such as the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology, which provides both secondary and post-secondary skills training, and the Canadian Construction Association, which seeks to build Canada with ethics, skills, and responsibility.

John studied at the University of Manitoba, where he received his BA in Economics & Political Science in 1974, and in 1976 he completed an MBA in Finance. He has been a Gold Seal Certified Project Manager since 2005.

His achievements include Volunteer of the Year, Winnipeg Construction Association, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, which honours significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.

 

Matthew Guberman, DIRECTOR

Matthew is the president and owner of Duraco Windows, a Winnipeg window and door manufacturer with over 100 employees. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Manitoba more than twenty-five years ago and has been active in the Winnipeg business community ever since.  He is also a member of the board of directors of Balmoral Hall School.

Matthew has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2011.  He is a second generation Reh-Fit member and director, and his son, Sacha is a third generation member.  Matthew is a member of the Nominating Committee.

 

Mike Hicks, DIRECTOR

Mike is General Counsel and Vice-President of Business Development of InfoTech Inc., a Winnipeg-based provider of health and wellness services to Canadian and international clients.

Mike’s recent background includes senior management roles in two Canadian-based retail businesses with significant international operations, and prior to that Mike practiced Corporate and Commercial law with a mergers and acquisitions/technology focus at leading Winnipeg and Toronto law firms.

Mike has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2008 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2014.

 

Cliff Lazareck, DIRECTOR

Cliff is the owner of North Flag – a clothing brand and retail store.  He attended University in the United States for a period but eventually returned to Manitoba to obtain a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Winnipeg. He then went on to study Business Management at George Brown College in Toronto.

Cliff is eager to lend his insights to the Reh-Fit Board of Directors. Having participated in multiple half marathons and competing in the annual CrossFit Open, maintaining a physically active lifestyle is very important to Cliff.

Cliff has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 2000. Cliff was elected to the Board of Directors in 2014 and is a member of the Governance Committee.

 

Erinn Mah, DIRECTOR

Erinn is currently the Chief Operating Officer of The Usand Group, a company that designs and secures customized financial solutions for Indigenous groups across Canada.  She is also the General Manager for the Douglas Cardinal Housing Corporation which designs, builds and finances quality housing for Indigenous communities. Erinn holds a BA degree in Political Science and Gender Studies from the University of British Columbia, a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Manitoba, and is a candidate for the Certified Management Consulting designation.

Erinn is originally from Vancouver and has lived all over Canada, but has lived in Winnipeg since 2013. Health and wellness is a central part of Erinn’s life and she emphasizes work-life balance and physical fitness.

 

Judy Murphy, DIRECTOR

Judy possesses a unique combination of CEO, board, and consulting experience. She held leadership positions at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Folklorama, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and Safety Services Manitoba where she is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer. In addition, she has also provided executive coaching and consulting services in strategy and governance to a variety of organizations. Judy’s board experience included the Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation (Audit Committee Chair), the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce (Past Chair), the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce (Vice Chair), the Crown Corporations Council of Manitoba (previously Vice Chair), and numerous other task groups and committees.

Judy holds a BA degree from the University of Manitoba and is a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Manitoba. She also holds a Masters Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University.

Judy is committed to good health and well-being and exercises at the Reh-Fit five days a week. She is grateful to Reh-Fit for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and the role that the staff played and continues to play in her husband’s remarkable recovery.

Judy has been a member of the Reh-Fit since August 2015. She is currently the Chair of the Governance Committee.

 

Nick Riediger, DIRECTOR

Nicholas is a Red Seal Carpenter and works for PCL Constructors. He is currently working towards his Gold Seal Certification. His volunteer experience includes work with Sister MacNamara Preschool and Infant Daycare.

Nick has a passion for activity and visits the Centre frequently. He has been a member since 2013.

 

Betty Lou Rock, DIRECTOR

Betty Lou Rock is a registered nurse and holds a Masters Degree in Nursing.  Betty Lou has worked in health care in Winnipeg for 30 plus years in the areas of cardiac care and critical care.  She is currently working for STARS air ambulance.  Betty Lou is an active member of the Association or Registered Nurses of Manitoba and serves on their finance committee.

Betty Lou has been a member at Reh-fit for several years and believes strongly in the values and activities of the Centre.  She enjoys regular work-outs, yoga, and coffee time with other members.

 

Wendy Rudnick, DIRECTOR APPOINTED BY THE ST. BONIFACE HOSPITAL

Ms. Rudnick is the Executive Director, Clinical Programs and Chief Nursing Officer at St. Boniface Hospital.  Ms. Rudnick has held leadership positions within the Winnipeg hospital and regional system.  Ms. Rudnick is a champion for patients receiving the right care, in the right place, at the right time and for ensuring nurses are supported to practice to their maximum clinical competency.  Ms. Rudnick is a RehFit member since 2013 and the Board appointee representative from St. Boniface Hospital since January 2016.

Wendy Rudnick was appointed to the Board as a representative of the St. Boniface Hospital in January 2016. She is currently a member of the Nominating Committee.
