Foundation

The Reh-Fit Foundation was created in 1999 to raise and steward funds in support of the Reh-Fit Centre by inspiring others to support the mission of the Centre in enhancing the health and well-being of our community. Exercise plays a significant role in preventing diseases and improving chronic conditions, enhancing brain function, and contributing to greater independence as we age. The Reh-Fit hosts a variety of events annually to help raise funds for the Centre, and we hold an Annual Giving Campaign each fall.

A gift to the Reh-Fit Foundation provides:

  • Rehabilitationoffering state-of-the-art medical and exercise equipment for the safest, most effective exercise to help people get better every day.
  • Preventionproviding leading-edge health and fitness programs at the Centre to help people prevent and manage chronic disease and live a healthier life.
  • Accessibilitymaking memberships and programs accessible to the broader community.
  • Research and Educationhosting research studies to advance health and wellness in our community, providing education for the growing number of people in the community who are challenged with health concerns, and hosting student placements from academic institutions to help students gain practical experience in their field of study.

Making a Gift

You can make your gift using the method of your choice:

  • Donate Online: To donate online, please use our secure gift form.
  • Download and Complete a Reh-Fit Gift Form (PDF): Print the Reh-Fit Gift Form and mail a Reh-Fit Gift Form to Reh-Fit Foundation, 1390 Taylor Ave., Winnipeg, MB., R3M 3V8, fax it to 204-488-4819, or email it to foundation@reh-fit.com.
  • In Person: at the Reh-Fit Centre.
  • Call the Foundation Office: at 204-488-9325.

As a not-for-profit charitable organization, all gifts, irrespective of the size, have a significant impact on our ability to provide affordable programs and services. Annual donations ensure that the funding is available for continually improving programs, services, and our facility.

Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.

Ways to Give

  • Monthly Donations: Monthly donations often make it easier for donations to be more generous. It also provides a reliable source of funding for the Reh-Fit.
  • Tribute Gifts: A donation is a thoughtful way to honour friends and family by supporting a cause that is meaningful to them.
    • Dedicated To: Give a gift in honour of a friend or family member who is celebrating a milestone achievement.
    • In Memory Of: Give a gift as a tribute to the memory of a loved one, friend or colleague.
  • Securities and Publicly Traded Stocks: The Canada Revenue Agency does not apply capital gains tax on donations of publicly traded securities.
  • Matched Donations: Through a “Matching Gifts Program”Check with your Human Resources Department to see if your company offers this program. If so, they will match your donation to us as a current employee or retiree.
  • Deferred Gifts: If you are considering leaving a bequest to the Reh-Fit in your will, we would appreciate hearing from you. The Reh-Fit Foundation Legacy Society provides an opportunity for us to acknowledge donors who make a commitment for a deferred gift. The Legacy Society helps us let others know about the impact of community support and how very important it is.
  • Life Insurance: The Reh-Fit Foundation is named as the beneficiary of a current policy or with a new policy that is purchased with the Reh-Fit Foundation named as owner and beneficiary.
  • Cash: Or, what is called “near cash” – The source of funds may be from, for example, a GIC, a government bond, or proceeds from an RRSP or RRIF.

Reh-Fit Foundation Board of Directors

The Reh-Fit Foundation’s purpose is to raise and steward funds to support the Reh-Fit Centre by inspiring others to contribute to the mission of the Centre in enhancing the health and well-being of our community.

Susan Boulter, CHAIR

In her 35 year career with the Province of Manitoba, Susan Boulter served as Director of Driver and Vehicle Licencing, Chief Operating Officer of Materials Distribution Agency and lastly as Chief Operating Officer of Vital Statistics Agency.  She sat on and chaired many provincial and national organizations.

Susan has been an active volunteer since her early teens. She was a member of the Junior League, on the vestry of All Saints’ Anglican Church, and was an active volunteer at Saint Mary’s Academy. Most recently, Susan has been on the board of CancerCare Manitoba and currently chairs its Planning Committee.

Since the Reh-Fit was such a critical part of her parents’ and brother’s recoveries after their heart attacks, she is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the Centre.  Susan is proud that her father was a founder of the Reh-Fit, and is committed to continuing her family contribution to the Centre through work with the Reh-Fit Foundation board.

 

Deepak Joshi, VICE CHAIR

Deepak Joshi has held various management positions in Property and Information Systems, Development and Inspections, Planning Property and Development, Chief Operating Officer and Acting Chief Administrative Officer. In his 27+ year career with the City of Winnipeg, he provided operational leadership across the entire spectrum of civic business, and in the management of each City service, on a daily basis. Prior to joining the City of Winnipeg in 1987, Deepak owned and operated a private consulting company in the Information Technology field which provided services to both the private and the public sector in change management, systems development, training and provision of e-government services.

Deepak has represented the City of Winnipeg on the Forks North Portage Board and was the co-chair for the Civic Employee Benefits Board.

Deepak has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 2010. He is currently the Chair of the Cocktails and Comedy Planning Committee.

 

Gary Pachal, TREASURER

Gary Pachal graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons). He started his career at KPMG and became a Chartered Accountant during this time. In 2005, he accepted a position at CanWest Global Communications and in 2009 joined Investors Group. Gary has been involved in the community serving as treasurer at Share Our Strength Canada and the RH Foundation. Gary has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 2005 and was elected to the Foundation Board in June 2014. He is currently the Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee.

 

Kevin McCulloch, SECRETARY

Kevin McCulloch is a retired lawyer. He earned his B.A and L.L.B. degrees from the University of Manitoba and was called to the Bar in 1970. After twelve years in private practice Kevin joined the legal department of Manitoba Public Insurance, focusing on civil litigation. In 1994 he was appointed General Counsel, Vice President Legal and Corporate Secretary, Executive positions he held until his retirement from MPI in 2009.

In 2009 Kevin was elected to the Misericordia Health Centre Board of Directors. He served as Board Chair from 2012 to 2015 and currently serves as Past Chair of the MHC Board. He is a member of the Governance and Audit & Finance committees of the Board.
Kevin joined the Reh-Fit Centre in 2009 and remains an active member when not on the golf course. He currently serves on the Golf Tournament Committee.

 

Scott Bailey, DIRECTOR

Scott is a Certified Management Accountant and has a Master of Business Administration degree. Scott has varying board experience, including the past President of the Manitoba Theatre for Young People, the Manitoba Contact Centre Association, and is currently active with the St. John Brebeuf Community Church and School. Scott enjoys spending time with his family and supporting their many athletic endeavours by way of coaching, managing, and cheering. Scott has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2010 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2012.

 

J.D. Boyd, DIRECTOR

J.D. graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  During his 40 year working career he spent 20 years in Sports Administration handling Public Relations for the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  As well he was the Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Manitoba and University of Regina handling the Public Relations, Marketing, Fundraising and game management for intercollegiate sports.  J.D. was one of the founding members of the University of Manitoba Bison Hockey Alumni Association. The other 20 years of his work experience were in sales most recently with Culligan Water from 2001 until his semi-retirement in 2013 where he was in charge of Commercial and Retail sales.

J.D. has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2014 and currently serves on the Golf Tournament Committee.

 

Barry Brown, DIRECTOR

Barry Brown is President of Maple Leaf Construction based in Winnipeg. During his years working in the heavy construction and road building industry, he has served on numerous boards and chaired a number of local, national, and international construction associations, including serving as chair of the Confederation of International Contractors Board of Directors.

Barry graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. Civil Engineering in 1974. He is married with two children and two grandchildren, and when time permits, he enjoys a number of hobbies including golf, boating, and woodworking.

Barry has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 1982 and was elected to the Foundation Board in 2011. He currently serves on the Golf Tournament Committee.

 

Mike Hicks, DIRECTOR

Mike is General Counsel and Vice-President of Business Development of InfoTech Inc., a Winnipeg-based provider of health and wellness services to Canadian and international clients.

Mike’s recent background includes senior management roles in two Canadian-based retail businesses with significant international operations, and prior to that Mike practiced Corporate and Commercial law with a mergers and acquisitions/technology focus at leading Winnipeg and Toronto law firms.

Mike has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2008 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2014.

 

Joanna Knowlton, DIRECTOR

Joanna graduated from The University of Manitoba with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees. She spent most of her career working in various capacities for The Public Trustee of Manitoba, retiring in 2014 as Public Trustee. During her career, Joanna has served on various boards and committees, including the Deer Lodge Centre Board  of Directors, the Deer Lodge Centre Ethics Committee, The Alzheimer’s Society Board of Directors and the Vital Statistics Special Operating Agency Advisory Board. She is currently a member of the College of Registered Nurses Discipline Committee and The Vulnerable Persons Living with a Mental Disability Hearing Panel Roster. Since her retirement, Joanna has become an enthusiastic and committed Reh-Fit Centre member as of 2009. She is currently Chair of the Planned Giving Committee.

 

Kristy Krahn, DIRECTOR

Kristy graduated from the Asper School of Business, at the University of Manitoba, with a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) degree.  She is the Director of Finance and Human Resources at The Quark Group, one of the largest privately owned retail footwear chains in Western Canada, currently operating 36 stores in the region.

Passionate about serving others, Kristy has volunteered at a variety of organizations over the years both personally and professionally.  She is a regular volunteer at and with Church of the Rock, has been recently involved with the Heart & Stroke Foundation and enjoys serving at Siloam Mission.

Kristy considers the pursuit of health and wellness a priority and has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2007. Kristy currently serves on the Nominating and Governance Committee.

 

Kent Magarrell, DIRECTOR

Kent is a Financial Advisor and the owner of Winnipeg Financial Services – a wealth advisory and investment practice affiliated with Manulife Financial. He is active, in various capacities, with the Rotary Club of St. Boniface – St. Vital and Westworth United Church, where he is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees. Kent has been involved in a number of organizations over the years in leadership roles.

Kent was raised on a farm near Domain, Manitoba and is an alumnus of the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc.A and a M.Sc. – both in Agricultural Economics.

Kent has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2006 and is one of the early morning regulars.  He is married with three children and two grandchildren. Interests include family, work, travel, and spending time at their Falcon Lake cottage.

 

Bruce Mazur, DIRECTOR

Bruce Mazur is a Senior Vice President with Aon Risk Services based in Winnipeg. Bruce joined Aon (Reed Stenhouse) after graduating from University of Manitoba -Political Science. Over his 34 year career with Aon, he has held roles as an Account Executive on Large /Global Risks and serving in Sales & Service Leadership responsibilities for Western Canada.

Bruce is married with two children and when not involved with the family enjoys his time as a member of Southwood Golf & Country Club.

He has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2012 and he previously sat as a member of the Centre’s Finance Committee for the past two years.

 

David Thompson, DIRECTOR

David is a Chartered Accountant, a Certified Management Accountant, and a Certified Management Consultant. He is currently the Director of Finance and Operations with the Manitoba Museum.  He returned to Winnipeg as CEO of Aeroguard Security. His business experience spans over 35 years.

David and his wife Laurie have both been members of the Reh-Fit Centre for a number of years. He is committed to fitness and attends the Centre three to four times each week for regular workouts and participates in various programs.

David was elected to the Reh-Fit Centre Board of Directors in June 2010 and currently serves as Past-Chair.

 

Neil Trenholm, DIRECTOR

Neil Trenholm is a General Counsel with the Legal Services Branch of the Manitoba Department of Justice. Before joining the civil service, Neil was a partner in the Winnipeg law firm Thompson Dorfman Sweatman. In addition to his law degree, he has a B.Comm (Hons). At work, Neil is a member of the Aboriginal and Resource Law team where he provides advice and counsel to a wide-range of clients on a variety of issues with a specific focus on commercial matters.

Neil was a member of the Reh-Fit in its infancy. He returned to the Reh-Fit with his teenage son more than 5 years ago. Shortly after that, his wife Joy and their daughter joined them as members. While their children are no longer at home, both Neil and Joy attend regularly and believe that the Reh-Fit contributes greatly to their physical and mental well-being. They expect to be members well into their 90s.

Neil served on the board of the Manitoba Marathon for several years including a term as chair. He has also acted as a Learning Group Facilitator for The Law Society of Manitoba in its Continuing Professional Legal Education program.

He has been a member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2007. Neil currently serves as Chair of the Nominating Committee.

 

Wayne Rogers, DIRECTOR

Wayne retired from Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba in January of 2014.  In 1989, he began his association with Variety and proudly served as a volunteer, Director and Board Chair of Variety. In 1999 he accepted the position as Executive Director which he held until his retirement in 2014. Over that period, Wayne continued to volunteer and serve on numerous boards of other organizations and presently a member of the Board of Directors of CJNU Nostalgia Radio, a community not for profit radio station in Winnipeg.

Wayne is the owner of Wayne A. Rogers & Associates Inc. a company that provides executive consulting services to a number of charitable and not for profit organizations. They specialize in event planning, public relations, marketing, corporate fundraising & donor development.

He is married with four wonderful grandchildren. His interests include family, travel, golf, cycling, hiking & volunteering.

Wayne and his wife Susan have both been proud members of the Reh-Fit Centre since 2009.

 

In appreciation for the support and help he’s received at the Centre, Les has made a significant donation to the Reh-Fit Foundation. His name has been added to the donor wall.
I give every accolade to the Reh-Fit for persevering with me. It is a great community resource and one I feel strongly about supporting. I definitely don’t take it for granted and thought this was a good way to give back.
