The Reh-Fit Foundation provides financial sustainability for the Reh-Fit Centre in the furtherance of its aims, goals and objectives.
BRETT MACKINNON, CHAIR
Brett is currently Vice-President and Chief Actuary of The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company and The Wawanesa General Insurance Company. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) Degree with a Major in Actuarial Mathematics. He attained Fellowship of the Casualty Actuarial Society and Fellowship of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries; accepted as a member in the American Academy of Actuaries and completed the Advanced Executive Education Program at the Aresty Institute, University of Pennsylvania.
Brett was a member of our Capital Campaign Committee (2004 – 2007); he was elected to the Reh-Fit Foundation Board in 2004; elected Treasurer in 2005; Vice-Chair in 2007 and currently serves as Chair. He also serves as Chair of the Walk of Life & Health Fair.
MIKE SAMPSON, VICE-CHAIR
Mike joined Great-West Life after graduation from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Economics. Over his 38 year career Mike held various management positions in Group Administration, Human Resources, Group Benefits and Group Marketing. Mike represented Great-West on the Boards of Assure Health Inc. and Preferred Vision Services. He served as a Board member of Junior Achievement of Manitoba and Child Find Manitoba, worked on the United Way annual fundraising campaign and was also a long time supporter of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba annual fund raising bike race. Mike Sampson retired from Great-West Life in 2007 as Vice-President, Group Marketing.
Mike has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 2008 and was appointed to the Foundation Board in 2008. He is also on the Healthy Living Awards Committee.
JIM GRANT, TREASURER
Jim Grant has served on committees of the United Way and CancerCare Manitoba and was on the Board of the St. John’s Ravenscourt School. Currently Jim is a member of the Warren Chair Fund Committee within the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. Jim held various senior management positions at Great West Life prior to his retirement. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries(FSA) and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries(FCIA).
Jim Grant has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 2006 and was appointed to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2008. He has been treasurer since 2009 and serves as Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee.
AUDREY VANDEWATER, SECRETARY
Audrey was born and raised in Toronto, but has lived most of her life in Winnipeg. She was employed as an administrative assistant prior to raising her family and being a full-time homemaker. Her focus throughout the years has been on family and community service.
Audrey’s community service has been extensive and impressive. She was President of Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and of Manitoba; she Co-chaired the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress; Chair of Corporation Leadership Division, Foundations for Health Capital Campaign; Chair of Premier’s Family Year-94 Volunteer Council; President of Junior League of Winnipeg and a member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, Universities Grants Commission and the Winnipeg Wards Review Committee. She is currently Co-Chair of the Community Liaison Committee for the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health. She also received the Order of Canada in 1993.
Audrey has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 1987. She was elected to the Reh-Fit Foundation Board of Directors in 2006 and was elected Vice-Chair in 2009. She was also appointed and has taken the lead on the Personal Approach Committee.
SUE BORESKIE, DIRECTOR
Sue Boreskie is a Fitness, Recreation and Wellness specialist with nearly 30 years of experience on a wide range of projects and facilities. She has extensive knowledge of the operation of fitness/community/wellness facilities through her work at the Wellness Institute, Rady Jewish Community Centre, and the Reh-Fit Centre. Sue has acted as a consultant and resource expert on various projects across Canada and internationally. She has served on the boards of numerous community and sport organizations, most recently as Vice President of Commonwealth Games Canada, and has received many awards, including the YM-YWCA’s Women of the Year Award. She is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Reh-Fit, where she started her career in 1981.
Fundraising has been a major part of her work at the facilities she has operated, including raising funds needed for programs, capital acquisition and replacement, and research and evaluation. She has also provided advice and guidance to others on planning and running campaigns that seek major gifts, membership support, and the use of annual events to raise funds.
TOM DOOLEY, DIRECTOR
Tom is a Partner of Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson LLP. His preferred area of practice is commercial law, with an emphasis on agriculturally related businesses and associations, as well as charities and foundations. Tom is a former Secretary of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and served as the Chair of its Policy Resolutions Committee for a number years. He has also served as President and Chair of St. Paul’s College, St. John’s Ravenscourt School, St. John’s Ravenscourt School Foundation Inc. and Vice-Chair of the University of Manitoba Board of Governors. In 1997, Tom received the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Manitoba for exceptional contributions to Manitoba. Tom also received the 2009 Harry Mardon Award from the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce.
Tom has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 1987. He was elected to the Reh-Fit Board of Directors in 1998, elected President in 2003. He served on the Reh-Fit Centre Board of Directors until 2008. He was elected to the Reh-Fit Foundation Board of Directors in 2008. He has served on various Committees and is currently on the Finance and Investment Committee.
He was instrumental in the growth and construction of the Reh-Fit Centre and in obtaining the Short Course property.
JUDY HOLDEN, DIRECTOR
Judy is an experienced fundraiser, having served as the Assistant Director of Development at the University of Manitoba, as well as other boards. In addition, she has marketing and finance experience through ownership of a small Winnipeg business.
Judy Holden joined the Reh-Fit Centre when it first opened in 1975 and returned again in 2002. She has been on the Board of Directors since 2003. She has served on the Executive Committee and is currently a member of the Nominating Committee. She was also the Marketing Chair of the Capital Campaign and has volunteered for many years for the Healthy Living Awards.
DAVID HORNE, DIRECTOR

David is an alumnus of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees. He has over 30 years of extensive experience in the financial services industry. Most of his time at Investors Group Head Office in Winnipeg was in leadership and executive coaching roles in various positions including: Vice-President of Marketing, Regional Vice-President of Sales and Vice-President of Insurance.
He has been active in chairing a number of boards and committees for various charitable and non-profit organizations. Previous experience includes: Chair of Community Leaders Division of United Way of Winnipeg, Chair of the board of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Manitoba and member of the national board of directors of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
As well as serving on the board of the Reh-Fit Foundation he is currently Past Chair of the Reh-Fit Centre board, member of the Executive committee of the Reh-Fit Centre, member of Reh-Fit Centre Governance committee, Chair of the Reh-Fit Centre Nominating Committee, and currently serves on the investment committees of three other national charitable organizations.
CATHERINE KLOEPFER, DIRECTOR
Catherine Kloepfer has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Manitoba. Upon graduation she spent 18 months with the Auditor General of Canada working as an auditor. In 1984 she began her career with KPMG where she worked for 22 years specializing in the financial services sector. In 2006 Catherine accepted the role of Senior Vice President Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer of Winnipeg Airports Authority.
Catherine has been involved in the community throughout her career including terms as the Treasurer of the Manitoba Historical & Scientific Society, Treasurer of the Manitoba Composers Association, Treasurer & President of the Western Canada Aviation Museum, Treasurer & Chair of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Winnipeg Arts Advisory Council, Chair of Shaftesbury High School Parent Network, Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and Chair of the Independent Review Committee for Sarbit Asset Management Ltd. She currently serves as a Director of Security Resource Group in Regina. She is a member of the Certified General Accountants Association and the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Catherine has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 2007 and was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in 2010. She currently serves on the Finance and Investment Committee.
KEN LEE, DIRECTOR
Ken is a Chartered Accountant (1975) and is a founding partner with the firm of Stefanson, Lee, Romaniuk. He is also a shareholder in various businesses in Manitoba. Ken is active in “Old Timers Hockey”, runs, golfs, and he has completed eight marathons. He is very involved in the community and is currently the Chief Financial Officer of the PC Party of Manitoba, and a Director of the Manitoba Jockey Club. He has held other volunteer positions with Pine Ridge Golf Club (President); Pan Am Games (Executive Committee); Balmoral Hall School (Board of Directors); Manitoba Tourism Committee (Director); and Western Canada Games (VP Operations).
Ken has been an active member of the Reh-Fit Centre since 1994 and is currently Chair of the Board of Directors and past Treasurer.
LEONA MacDONALD, DIRECTOR
Leona holds a B.Sc (H.Ec) degree from University of Manitoba and a Diploma of Education from McGill. She worked as General Manager of professional theatre companies and after 15 years, resumed her first career as a teacher and taught at an International Language School in Victoria and at Yukon College in Whitehorse. Since her return to Winnipeg, after 37 years away, she has worked at Manitoba Theatre Centre as Director of its Capital and Endowment Campaigns until her retirement two years ago.
Leona has volunteered on various boards including the Association of Fundraising Professionals Board, co-chairing the Education Program Committee and chairing the Annual Philanthropy Awards Committee. She sat on the Winnipeg Arts Council Board, and as a member of Women of Note Choir, served on its board as President and currently is the Treasurer.
Leona has been a member of the Reh-Fit since 2003 and has been on the Healthy Living Awards Committee. She looks forward to further involvement with Reh-Fit and the beneficial services it provides for our community.
