In 2019, the Reh-Fit Centre is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
The Reh-Fit Centre opened in 1979 with a focus to enhance the health and well-being of its members and the community by providing innovative health and fitness services through assessment, education, and exercise in a supportive environment. For 40 years, this not-for-profit has helped build community health by encouraging thousands to develop and maintain healthy lifestyles that improve their quality of life.
The Reh-Fit Centre’s origins are modest, beginning with doctors at St. Boniface Hospital, principally Dr. David Mymin, who recognized that exercise could help their cardiac patients recover from surgery. What began as a few treadmills at the hospital grew into a stand-alone facility on Taylor Avenue which, through the generosity of Paul Albrechtsen, was elevated to an entirely new level. Today, the Reh-Fit Centre is an award-winning Manitoba institution. It is Canada’s first certified medical fitness centre, it is accredited by Imagine Canada, and it meets the highest global standards for programs, staff, safety, and community service.
