Parkade Construction Update May 06, 2026

The parkade construction is going well and is on track to be finished by mid-September—an exciting step forward for the Centre’s future.

The foundation is now complete, and the structure will start to take shape as the walls go up in the coming weeks.

Starting Monday, May 11, activity in the east parking lot will pick up as we move into the next stage of construction. A 300-ton crane will arrive and be set up on May 11–12, followed by deliveries of prefabricated concrete slabs from May 13 through mid-June. During this time, we anticipate about 8–10 deliveries each weekday.

To ensure smooth deliveries and safety for everyone, Bird Construction will install a temporary barrier in the east lot to allow large trucks to manoeuvre safely. Flaggers and signage will help guide vehicles and pedestrians. All construction vehicles will enter through the east entrance (closest to Waverly).

With these changes, there will be a temporary reduction in parking spaces. Member overflow parking will be available near the construction site and marked with signage.

There may be short delays entering and exiting the east entrance during this period. We recommend members use the west or middle entrance when visiting the Reh-Fit Centre.

Please note that on Thursday, May 7, at 6:00 a.m., a few accessible parking stalls in the east parking lot will be unavailable due to maintenance on a light standard. Work is expected to take a few hours.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding as we continue to build towards a healthier future for our members and community.

Parkade Construction Update Apr 30, 2026

Foundation work is nearly complete, with crews now focused on interior underground mechanical and electrical installations. To date, 360 cubic meters of concrete have been poured, establishing a strong base for the structure.

Preparations are also underway for the next phase, including interior grading and the construction of a reinforced foundation for a large crane arriving in the coming weeks. This crane will support precast erection, with approximately 200 truckloads of materials scheduled for delivery. Some components exceed 25,000 kg and require specialized transport and permits, with deliveries expected over an 8–10 week period once erection begins.

Safety for our members is paramount during this phase. Bird Construction personnel will be guiding the trucks into the construction site. While this is occurring, there may be a small wait for cars entering the parking lot.

As always, we will keep our members notified on all the latest construction updates as they occur.

Parkade Construction Update Apr 07, 2026

Progress continues steadily on the new Reh-Fit Centre parkade, with several key milestones underway.

The foundation is expected to be completed by the end of the month, marking an important step forward in the project's structural development.

Work below grade is also progressing. Underground electrical installation is now about 65% complete, helping prepare the site for future systems and functions. Additionally, crews have started mechanical work and are installing weeping tiles and drainage systems. These elements are vital to ensure proper water management and the long-term durability of the structure.

We look forward to sharing more updates as construction progresses.

Parkade Construction Update Feb 23, 2026

We're excited to share that the installation of the 237 concrete piles is now complete, marking a significant milestone in the construction of a vital part of the parkade's foundation. The crew is now excavating to prepare for pouring the next level, which includes concrete pile caps and grade beams—some areas require digging to depths of over 10 feet.

Bird Construction has been putting in extra effort by working early mornings and late evenings to keep everything on track for the new parkade. We're grateful for their dedication as we move closer to completion. Just two months ago, this space was an open parking lot, but now it's amazing to see all the progress that's been made in the ongoing development.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates!

Parkade Construction Update Jan 15, 2026

Delivery and installation of the piles for the NEW parkade will begin this Friday, January 16 and will continue for approximately three weeks.

As the piles are installed, expect noise and vibration from Monday to Friday, starting as early as 7:00 am and lasting until 4:00 pm.

Though contractors will do their best to avoid scheduling deliveries of the piles during peak times, expect some congestion as large construction trucks enter through the far East entrance near the construction site.

Parking in the East lot will not be affected during this period.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.

Parkade Construction FAQ Dec 15, 2025

When does the project begin?

Preparation for parkade construction is scheduled to start on Monday, December 15. The contractor will mobilize construction trailers, set up fencing, signage, and start underground civil, foundation, and excavation work.

Where is the activity happening?

All activity is contained to the east side of the Reh-Fit property, in the area marked as the future parkade zone on the map below. The rest of the parking lot and building access remain open.

construction-aerial-plan.jpg (53 KB)

Will parking lot entrances and exits remain open?

Yes, all parking lot entrances and exits will remain open.

The west and main parking (east side closest to building) lot entrances and exits will be dedicated to members, guests, and staff to access parking.

The east parking lot entrance and exit (east side closest to Waverley St.) will be construction access point. A flagperson will be guiding the construction deliveries for safety of everyone. Members should expect delays and waiting periods, if using this access, as heavy trucks and equipment will be accessing and leaving the construction site.

Will parking be reduced?

The construction site will take up a portion of the parking spaces. To address this, we removed the outdoor fitness space and restored parking spaces. Occasionally, construction trucks may need to make wide turns in the members’ parking area. When this happens, a flagperson will be present to guide the vehicles for everyone’s safety.

Will pedestrian access or sidewalks be affected?

Sidewalks and pedestrian access to the main entrance will remain open. If any changes occur, they will be communicated in advance.

How will member safety be managed?

Safety is a top priority. Traffic flow, access points, and safety measures will be reviewed regularly throughout the project, and adjustments will be made as needed.

Will there be ongoing updates?

Yes. Members will receive regular updates through email, on-site signage, and this webpage as the project progresses.

Parkade Timeline Update Dec 11, 2025

New target opening is now September 2026

Parkade FAQ Nov 27, 2025

We are pleased to share important news about the next stage of the Reh-Fit Centre’s growth. To support our members and the future of our programs, the Centre Board of Directors has approved the construction of a parkade and redevelopment of the parking lot on the east side of our property.

Why this Project Matters

Membership continues to grow, and with it, parking demand. Peak times already strain our current capacity of 401 stalls, with usage regularly exceeding 380 stalls in winter. Industry benchmarks recommend more parking based on our membership numbers; our 10-year vision projects the need for approximately 550 stalls.

The Reh-Fit is exploring an expansion to its facility to meet demands of our future. We continue to work on what that could look like based on the input received from various parties when we developed our 10-year vision plan, input from our Building Advisory Committee, reviewing trends in the industry, and input from consultants who are working with us on the design and associated costs.

Importantly, the parkade is needed whether a broader expansion of the Centre proceeds. The new parkade will relieve immediate pressure, ensure smooth operations during any future expansion phases, and future-proof our capacity for growth.

Project Timeline for Parkade

  • Fall 2025 – Spring 2026: Construction of the parkade and parking lot redevelopment.
  • July 1, 2026: Targeted opening of the new parkade.

Temporary Impacts

  • 30–50 surface stalls will be unavailable during construction.
  • A gravel area will be used for construction access and laydown space.
  • We will continue to monitor and manage parking access throughout this time to minimize disruption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we building the parkade so far from the facility?

The location was chosen to provide the option of potential future expansion, optimize the space usage, and minimize disruption to current operations.

How will a new parkade benefit you?

The parkade will improve parking stall access by providing approximately 200 additional parking spaces. It will be a three-level parkade including its ground level. The construction will also allow more levels to be added in the future if needed.

Will it cost anything to use the parkade?

There will be no cost to members to use the parkade.

How long will construction take?

Construction is scheduled to take place between November 2025 and June 2026. We will keep you updated as the construction progresses.

Will construction affect your visit to Reh-Fit?

While we anticipate minimal disruption to you during the construction, there may be temporary changes to parking availability and access routes. We will provide you with updates in advance of any changes to parking.

Will this impact membership fees?

There are no planned increases to membership fees directly related to the construction of the parkade.

Is the Reh-Fit working on other projects?

The Reh-Fit is continually exploring improvements and projects to enhance your experience. As featured in the 2023-24 Annual Report, member feedback indicated future improvements should consider including an aquatics area, more space for exercising and programs, quiet relaxing spaces, recovery services, and locker rooms that better accommodate diverse needs. The parkade will better position the Reh-Fit to accommodate future projects to provide the programs, services, and amenities that members are looking for.

Where can you find more information about the parkade?

We will provide regular updates on progress through various channels such as email notices and social media, as well as on a special section of our website that we will be developing.
