Linda graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine, in 1974 and then received further training in emergency medicine and anesthesia. She subsequently became Medical Director of the Winnipeg Ambulance Department, where she developed advanced care paramedic protocols for pre-hospital treatment of patients. An extensive review of 911 calls in Winnipeg showed that immediate pre-hospital treatment delivered by advanced care paramedics could save the lives of many critically ill patients in Winnipeg. That pre-hospital system, with both firefighter and paramedic response, continues to this day.
Accreditation of the advanced care paramedic program required that Linda, as Medical Director, ride with paramedics in ambulances to assess the quality of pre-hospital care in Winnipeg. After seeing firsthand the living conditions and poverty within Winnipeg, Linda became involved with the United Way of Winnipeg. She was Campaign Chair of the 1998 United Way Winnipeg campaign, which raised $10.5 million dollars in support of the many United Way agencies helping those in need in our city.Close Bio
